Intelligent process automation: streamlining purchase order processing

Intelligent process automation (IPA) has emerged as a powerful tool for streamlining business processes. BAM faced the challenge of streamlining the processing of purchase orders. The manual process was hindering operational speed and financial efficiency, prompting the need for a more effective solution.
To address this issue, Valcon’s robotic process automation (RPA) team joined forces with the data capability to build an intelligent automation solution. Within a short period, the teams successfully developed and deployed an RPA solution accompanied by fully functional AI models. The solution leveraged Azure Document Intelligence to transform PDFs into readable text and integrated Azure OpenAI to extract the relevant information from these documents. This automated system dramatically reduced both the time and cost associated with processing purchase orders, resulting in significant annual savings for the firm.

Appian’s low-code platform has become a powerful catalyst for accelerating digital transformation. Valcon has played a key role in helping a legal expenses insurance company transform their operations by introducing and implementing Appian as a core part of its organisation.
We developed several critical business applications on Appian to enhance the company’s legal services. One of the main applications enables caseworkers to manage and process legal cases more efficiently through a unified case management system. By automating workflows and consolidating legal processes onto a single platform, the insurance company can now deliver legal services more efficiently and at reduced costs.

Seamless and cost-effective delivery of applications for a major government agency
This is what we have achieved:
- Delivered and maintained multiple projects over two years, ensuring high standards and timely completion
- Developed an application to calculate and compensate immaterial costs, processing over 50,000 claims for clients aged 18 and older
- Completed the pilot phase of a similar application for minors, meeting all milestones
After successfully estimating and compensating for both physical damage and loss of value to their customers’ assets, our client faced the challenge of estimating and compensating for immaterial damage borne by the property owners and residents. This included both adults and minors (under 18).
With Valcon’s leadership and the implementation of Pega, our customer developed a new process for compensating immaterial damage, culminating in the launch of their first fully DevOps team. Pega’s robust low-code platform enabled the creation of an integrated application that has processed over 50,000 claims, significantly improving service delivery to its client base. Valcon also delivered a pilot application for minors, automating compensation calculations based on the amounts granted to adults, using Pega to streamline and optimise the workflow.

A leading Dutch infrastructure company recognised the potential of low-code technology to enhance its IT delivery. Many processes were still relying on legacy software and a heavy use of Excel.
The company selected Valcon as its implementation partner for low-code development and has been using the Mendix platform for nearly 10 years, successfully building over 30 applications. Initially, these applications focused on complex, company-specific solutions in areas such as risk, lifecycle, portfolio and capacity management. Recognising the importance of geographic data to most solutions, Valcon integrated the Mendix platform with their GIS platform* early on, starting in 2017.
Over the past three years, the focus has shifted towards more integrated and business-critical solutions, including Mendix front-end applications on top of SAP, enabling more complex workflows and an improved user experience. Last year, we delivered the company’s first operational technology (OT) low-code solution, which facilitates the control of physical assets distributed across the Netherlands.
