I wake up around 6:30 am, though it often depends on the kids. By 7, I’m usually up and about, ready to tackle the day ahead. Breakfast isn’t really my thing, but I must admit that the freshly baked buns from the kitchen at the Valcon Copenhagen office are a temptation I can hardly resist.
After a dash of morning chaos with the kids, I hop on my bike for my commute. I’m a big fan of cycling, and I prefer to pedal my way to work. It’s about 10 kilometres to my client’s office, and I love the free exercise it provides. However, if it pours, I might use public transportation.
I usually arrive at the office between 7:30 and 8 am, where I kick off my day by sifting through emails and messages. My role currently involves rolling out a new CMS article system at a Nordic broadcasting corporation, which means I’m constantly engaging with various stakeholders to ensure everything is set for a smooth transition and that the organisation is ready for the change. The day is a blend of meetings and focused work, and I thrive on the energy of being in the office, where I can have those spontaneous chats that often lead to great ideas.
Lunchtime rolls around at 11:30, and I make it a point to step away from my desk. It’s a chance to eat and chat with colleagues, and if the weather is nice, I might even sneak in a short walk. I wrap up my day around 3:30 pm, which allows me to spend precious time with my kids before their bedtime. That’s a priority for me, and I cherish those moments.
In the evening, if I still have work to do, I pick it up when the kids are asleep, and I also like to read a book or just relax and watch something with my wife. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, you’ll find me playing handball, which is a great way to unwind and stay active.
Weekends are all about family and friends. Whether we’re at the playground, the zoo or cheering on my son during his handball practice on Saturdays, I love spending time with them. Often we have dinner with family and friends, and many Sundays feature my own handball matches. When I can, I enjoy catching an FC Copenhagen football match at Parken, the Danish national football stadium.
This year is a bit special, as we recently bought a house that needs complete renovation. During springtime, we’ve spent a lot of time tearing everything down inside. Now, professionals are rebuilding and renovating, so we hope to move in by 1 July- though that might be a bit optimistic😉
I started my journey at Valcon earlier this year, and looking back, this shift has taught me a lot about transitioning from one workplace to another, adapting to a new company culture and embracing new ways of working.
