My day usually starts fairly early, not with an alarm clock but with my three-year-old son, who is always ready to play. We spend a few moments playing together in his room before having breakfast with the family.
On days when I take him to preschool, I am on my bike by around 7.45 am, heading either to the Valcon office in Gothenburg or straight to a client. Gothenburg is small enough to make cycling the easiest and nicest option, and I choose it whenever I can. Right now, I’m pregnant and preparing to welcome a sibling to my son, so soon, an electric bike may become part of my routine.
Most days, I work either from the office or from the client site rather than from home. I genuinely enjoy being around people and feel that I get more energy from shared spaces and face-to-face collaboration. At the moment, my working week is split between two public sector clients, one in Gothenburg and one in Stockholm. When work takes me to Stockholm, the bike is replaced by a train.
I am an Associate Partner at Valcon and mentor five management consultants at different stages of their careers. In my client work, I often step into the role of project manager, which suits me very well. My days are largely shaped by meetings, both with clients and internal project teams. A lot of my time goes into aligning people, setting direction, following up on progress, giving input and making sure everyone knows what to focus on next. Facilitating workshops, presenting insights and supporting decision-making are all part of my everyday rhythm.
For quite some time, I have been working on two major digitalisation projects. One of them, with Renova, a large waste management, recycling and energy company, is just finishing up. Here, we have been focusing on resource management, scheduling and time and attendance, including the procurement of a new system for implementing more efficient, standardised and digitalised processes. The other project is with a Swedish government agency. In this project, we are modernising HR processes, system landscape and data management to create a more efficient and user-friendly setup for their around 4,500 employees.
While project work still fills much of my calendar, my role has changed over the years. I now spend more time on sales activities and increasingly draw on my specialist expertise within HR, resource management and sourcing and procurement. As my consultant profile has become deeper, and as my network grows, it becomes easier to spot client needs early and help shape the right solutions.
Lunch is something I buy rather than bring from home. Whether I am at the office or with a client, I enjoy trying different lunch spots and keeping things varied. By around 5 pm, my working day typically winds down, although some days end a little earlier to allow time for picking up my son.
Evenings look different depending on the day. Family time always comes first, with cooking, playing and unwinding together. On other evenings, I head to the gym or enjoy Gothenburg’s cultural life, whether that is a concert, a theatre performance or a film.
Outside work, I like to challenge myself by learning something new each year. Sports have always been part of my life, from football to squash, although for now, gym sessions have replaced more intense training. Now, during pregnancy, I’ve also shifted towards more mental workouts, such as learning French and solving logic puzzles. Reading is another passion of mine, supported by an active book club where good discussions are just as important as the red wine😉
Weekends are social and very much centred around family. They often involve playgrounds, child-friendly museums, dinners with friends and visits to new restaurants. I like my life busy, but nicely balanced.
