POLE data matching service at central government

Situation

The unit is a centralised service within enterprise services and has been at the forefront of efforts to re-imagine the central governments relationship with data. It has led the way in professionalising the central government’s approach to the acquisition and analysis of data, promoting dynamic insight-led and evidence-based decision-making tools and techniques. The challenge for the client was to provide a joined up set of data from across a broad range of data sources varying in quality, fulfilment and size to allow analytics to be performed efficiently at scale.

Approach

Valcon has a long-standing relationship with the client and delivers a best-in-class matching service that is built on top of a Party, Object, Location and Event model, enabling data sets to be joined via Matching (Entity Resolution). The Valcon team has defined the POLE model, implemented matching algorithms which meet AQA and business requirements. Designed, implemented, manage and support the Matching Service which is capable of processing large volumes of data delivered by both streaming and batched data sources. Valcon delivers a blended team of data engineers, data matching SMEs, developers and architects to provide this best-in-class matching solution.

Results

As a result of the project, the central government’s data matching service is fundamental to the data platform and delivers on the unit’s vision to be at the leading edge of use of data analytics in government.
