Situation
A leading provider of assistive products and solutions for mobility, patient handling and daily living needed stronger control of its product data as the sector’s regulatory demands increased. Due to fragmented systems and data repositories, the company did not have a clear view of where the relevant data was held across systems and subsidiaries in Europe and the US. At the same time, limited transparency around daily sales made it harder to understand performance across the business and project future sales with confidence.
Approach
Valcon helped the client create a clearer data governance structure and build a data platform that brought relevant product and sales data together across its subsidiaries in Sweden, Denmark and the US.
The work included data governance training, collaborative working sessions and a three-FTE programme to create and implement a data governance operating model that defined clear roles and responsibilities. To support regulatory and financial needs, Valcon also built a data platform in Microsoft Fabric that gathered data from the subsidiaries into one structure.
Results
The client gained a data platform, data catalogue and data governance framework that:
- Helped to reduced exposure to costly regulatory risks through better control of product data
- Improved visibility of daily sales numbers across subsidiaries, enabling it to more accurately make projections of future sales
- Created a data governance framework the client could continue to build on independently and keep addressing data issues over time
