I am Wessel de Jong, and I am a Databricks Engineer at Valcon’s Data capability. Working at Valcon excites me every day because I am constantly challenged to find the optimal data solutions for our clients. Currently, I am collaborating with a major client in the financial sector, where we implement cutting-edge data solutions using Databricks technology.
Throughout the project, we face new requirements from the business, IT architects, and regulatory bodies, pushing us to adapt and enhance our technical infrastructure. Our solutions continuously evolve into more mature data products. Thanks to Valcon’s strong culture of knowledge sharing, best practices and experiences from colleagues on other projects are seamlessly transferred, significantly boosting my personal development and enabling me to make a greater impact on our clients.
In a short time, I’ve gained experience with a wide range of technologies, business applications, and soft skills. During my first project, I was invited to help create the Databricks community within Valcon. Now, over a year and a half later, I am a proud member of the community core team, supporting over 220 Databricks enthusiasts by providing and facilitating hands-on training sessions.

I enjoy working ‘with’ instead of just ‘for’ clients on projects that focus on the people side of change. I believe it’s so valuable that I have colleagues with different skill sets to learn from, such as colleagues focusing on processes or technology.
Overall, I enjoy the variety of projects and clients, but most of all I love working with enthusiastic, motivated colleagues!

As a junior, I get all the tools and guidance I need to develop myself which makes it a great start to my professional career. I am Maike Maas, and working as a Data Engineer at Valcon, every day brings new challenges with complex and fascinating clients. I get to dive deep into big data projects and stay ahead by working with cutting-edge technologies. One of my recent highlights has been working with Databricks – it’s become a go-to tool for me.
On a project for a major international construction company, we built an entirely new data platform from the ground up. We used a combination of Databricks, Azure Synapse, and Git, and I was impressed by how seamlessly they integrated. Databricks, in particular, stood out because it removes the limitations of sticking to just one language in a script. Whether it’s Python, SQL, or any modern data language, I can choose the best tool for the job – making it a versatile powerhouse for everything from engineering to analysis and machine learning.
I also appreciate how easy it is to test code by organising it into blocks that can be run individually or together. The intuitive interface and flexible markup options make the code not only functional but also clean and easy to navigate. I’m definitely looking forward to using Databricks in future projects.

I am Sebastiaan van Nijedn, and as a technical Data Engineer who thrives on solving complex puzzles, Valcon is the perfect place for me. The variety of environments and client projects keeps me constantly learning and exploring new things. Across these projects, Databricks has quickly become an indispensable tool in my toolkit.
For the past two years, I’ve been working alongside a team of Valcon Data Engineers for a large financial organisation, where we built a new data platform entirely from scratch. Databricks’ scalable infrastructure allowed me to focus on the quality of my work and optimizing the platform without getting bogged down by infrastructure management. One of the most satisfying parts of these projects is watching the growth of our Git repository—from that first commit to a fully operational data platform delivering actionable insights to end-users.
In addition to my project work, I also help train new Valcon colleagues and other Databricks enthusiasts. What really stands out during these sessions is how quickly people get up to speed with Databricks. It’s intuitive, user-friendly, and allows you to hit the ground running in no time.
One of the great things about Valcon is the broad range of clients we work with. When a project wraps up or I’m ready for a new challenge, I can easily transition to a new client or project. With the growing demand for Databricks Data Engineers, I can leverage my skills on projects that excite me.
