The opportunity:
Valcon UK is seeking Software/Data Engineer to join our growing Data Platforms capability group within our Data Practice.

We are looking for Specialists with the following skill sets:

  • Python
  • Developing medium to complex applications using cloud technologies
  • Unit and integration testing
  • Secure coding practices

Desired

  • Spark / PySpark / Pandas
  • AWS Glue / Glue Studio
  • Docker
  • Linux OS and bash scripting experience
  • Source code management using Git
  • Use and configuration of build pipelines
  • Appropriate use of logging and monitoring tools, including the correct handling of PII data

The right person will be able to:

  • Design, build and test data products that are complex or large scale
  • Select and implement the appropriate technologies to deliver resilient, scalable and future-proofed data solutions
  • Effectively manage stakeholder expectations
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Support and host discussions within a multidisciplinary team, with potentially difficult dynamics
  • Present clear insights to colleagues to support the end use of the data

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, build, deploy and support components of an ETL pipeline on a cloud native platform (currently AWS)
  • Write, test and peer-review maintainable application code in Python and PySpark
  • Ensure quality of code developed, including appropriate use of automated testing and secure development practices.
  • Engage directly with stakeholders, including clients, to clarify requirements, and take initiative in asking for feedback
