Situation

CRUK faced several challenges due to the use of multiple disparate CRM systems across its departments. These systems, each with their own directories, led to fragmented data and increased complexity in data management. The organisation found itself incurring rising costs to clean this data and maintain its accuracy. The lack of centralised control resulted in poor data management practices and compromised data quality. Additionally, the manual processes used to handle data were rife with inconsistencies and errors, further complicating the situation.

Approach

To tackle these issues, CRUK initiated a comprehensive project to integrate data across the UK. The aim was to create a single, unified view of all supporters within the organisation. This integration effort focused on consolidating data from various CRM systems into one centralised system, ensuring a holistic view of supporters. By centralising data, CRUK sought to reap the benefits of having clean, reliable business data. This would enable more effective engagement with millions of supporters involved in cancer research worldwide and foster stronger relationships with donors, volunteers, and fundraisers.

Results

CRUK’s strategy is to make discoveries, drive progress and bring hope to those affected by cancer. Their vision to bring about a world where everybody can lead longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer can be better achieved with a true ‘golden record’. CRUK are now better positioned to engage with millions of supporters in cancer research worldwide and build improved relationships with donors, volunteers and fundraisers.
