24/7 A Day In The Life of a Valcon Employee | Victoria Stevens

As a Valconeer working at one of Valcon’s longest running clients, my average day starts at 6:30 am, when I go to the office, and 8:00 am when working from home. I’m a smoothie girl and blend a banana, blueberries, raspberries, oats, cocao powder, flaxseed, ginger, turmeric and oat milk to start my day. I work from home a couple of days a week and enjoy the office for face-to-face collaboration and bonding with my team. I travel on the Southeastern line into Charing Cross and walk from there to Goodge Street, which takes around 1hr 20mins.

I am a Manager in Consulting, Mentor and Daily coach, and Account Lead at one of our clients, a global beauty company. I am also the capability lead for UK change management and adoption. I am currently an agile PMO manager for the client, where I oversee reporting and governance, ways of working, finance and resource management.

My day starts with checking my inbox and addressing any quick wins. I have a daily catch-up with the Portfolio Team every morning at 9:30 am, followed by a daily 1-2-1 with the Portfolio Manager to manage their diary for the day. The rest of the day consists of regular catchups on reporting, governance, resourcing and budgets, as well as attending delivery progress updates for information. I also have regular check-ins with Valconeers who I mentor and coach to support their development.

Over the past 18 months, my role has changed significantly, and I have had to evolve my prioritisation methods, governance and comms infrastructure to support collaboration and alignment with the client’s regional and global teams and business stakeholders. I am currently supporting Valcon UK’s ‘Investment in People’ plan for 2023, leading on and contributing to a few special projects.

As my role has evolved, I have learned the art of a good brief and consistent feedback and that delegation is key, given my management responsibilities and various communities.

Most days, I wrap up work between 5:30-6:00 pm. In the evenings, I attend yoga and dance classes, or I cook dinner and relax with a good movie or box set. My hobbies also include styling my new home since I moved in last summer. I usually spend my weekends socialising, doing something creative or outdoorsy, or occasionally I visit museums and galleries to get inspired.
