Solar
Lean, leadership and long-term perspectives
Valcon helped Solar realise an end-to-end lean implementation to make it clear to employees across departments, functions and countries which value they were actually creating for customers, themselves and the organisation. The lean implementation has had great impact within many areas throughout the organisation.
The How
Two main principles were crucial for Solar’s lean implementation: Great focus on management from day one and great focus on involving local organisations and employees so that they assume responsibility for their own improvements.
After the lean implementation, Solar experiences great improvements in many areas throughout the organisation, and improvements are particularly striking within those units who had the lowest scores before.
Solar received the Confederation of Danish Industry’s Productivity Award 2010 for their work with lean.
One of Valcon’s experienced lean experts states that the impact of Solar’s “lean way” is so strong because lean was not seen as a “project” but as the creation of a new culture. It is lean with a long-term perspective.
Our managers used to be specialists who would dictate all the right answers. Today, managers focus on training the employees and the organisation to find their own solutions.
